The Narrative Frame: Words As Guide

In this clip from The Magic Patio March, we discuss the use of introductions & forewords to give context to photographic works. The example we discuss is from Family: A Contemporary Portrait by Magnum Photos and Guest Artists where Alec Soth says of his teenage daughter:

“Now nineteen, Carmen is about to venture out on her own road.”

With two small paragraphs of context, the images are given narrative power.
